Hi, in response to the Time Tourist review Could B12 be the Ramones of IDM ? No offense, more as in...I allways thought the Ramones were the only band who could get away with making the same record every year, becuase it was allways so good (oh, confession time!). I have the same feeling with B12. with a smile for you all, Allert Allert Aalders - Big Time Concepts - allert@knoware.nl - allert@riv.nl KoX

This new album warrants a warning sticker in my view far more than the lfo album. Have you seen your speaker drivers during 'Cymetry'? When I'm not worrying ablout blowing my speakers, this is definitely a damn fine album. B12 really know how to capture the mood with their artwork. -Ed

i agree wholeheartedly !!!! my palmpilot pro has been the biggest productivity drain / boon (matter of perspective) since i got my first PC. there is a pocketsynth program, but if the thing can't even dial a phone, i can't imagine the pads are too strong. but...... roland has actually released a combo PDA/pocket synth; i think i saw it in WIRED. minidisc to MIDI to roland pocket rocket. the subway gig can't be far away.... peeeeeeeeece, Jeff Davis <pHlow> ____--~~~~~~vvvv~~~~ oooo812.831.7846 jjdavis@xnet.com____---- ( ( ( vvvv ~~~~~~ooooooooooooo ___----( ( \ \ \ \ \ vvv ooooooooooooooooooo ____---- ( \ \ \ \ \ \ \ http://www.xnet.com/~jjdavis/

Love 'em or leave 'em, appreciated or under-rated, I must say that B12 are far from being "Detroit techno wannabee". When they came out I was'nt really as taken by them as other early 90's "classics"but in time I've come to appreciate them more. As Lance says (below) it *does* show it's influences but definitely strays somewhere else, somewhere colder, somewhere with less *emotion* (?) As a Detroit fan and as an IDM fan, I just can't tag B12 as "Detroit techno wannabee". Peter

Still, hardly a track that'll >change your life or cure you of being a zombie or whatever "if you don't >have this, you are not living yet" means. And it's also on Time Tourist.
hm.. I think Time Tourist is rather mediocre and perhaps even crappy :) I wanted a track from the Blech cassette on vinyl, made a big goofoff and got the wrong record, and was insanely dissapointed. (anyone who wants it, my copy is yours :) for a suitable price) but, that aside. We definitely are on opposite sides of the map when it comes to this, as I think the Speedy J. track is one of the best IDM tracks of all time, and well. You think it's utter shit.

Time Tourist was certainly a disappointment, although there were a couple of decent tracks there. Electro-Soma still beats it into the ground though. Still, if Time Tourist destroyed your faith in B12, you may like to try their recent '3ep' on Warp. Lots of new sound textures (everything up until Time Tourist sounded very samey), a more energetic pace, etc. Certainly an interesting change in style for them -- almost completely unrecognisable (especially the third track, 'Ron Carter'). I do hope a new B12 album is waiting round the corner. /\/)ark http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/
