Well... I'm very happy to say that the new "Squarepusherman" release, "Hard Normal Daddy", is everything I expected and more! Kinda like the theme to some imaginary "Blaxploitation" flick! The funk is badder, the fusion is slicker, and the madness is crazier!! And I wasn't even impressed by the "Vic Acid" single - a bit too novelty-ish and it brought back way to many bad memories of late 80's / early 90's raves! Now only if he'll get over his fear of flying and slap us North Americans upside da head with some of his badassmuthafunkin licks in '97! discreetly, l.b.

Yeah its quite good, but no one has mentioned yet the track where Tom sings. Guess it didn't leave much of an impact on you geezers, but it's one of my favorites. He has a much better voice than aphex, a nice warmed over baritone, sort of like an english johnny cash. The lyrics are also quite poetic but still have a kind of quirky edge, think Velvet Underground with a bit of scruff and you're pretty much there. cheers, gonzi.

Yeah i recieved a tape of this yesterday.. it came via California, via Japan, via the UK...Its been all round the world and back to get to me! Dont worry g303. ill *probably* buy the vinyl. Rustic Raver has got a 303 line that made me laugh out loud! amazing, and ive been waiting so long to have a copy of Beat Street, instead of relying on rapidly degenerating gig memories, its not as instant as 'Feed me...', but i reckon in like ten years when im sitting down with the old wife and a cup of bovril, warming my feet in front of the fire with the cat on my lap ill think 'which of my ten or so Squarepusher albums shall i listen to? i know, ill give Hard normal Daddy a go :)' Leave me alone, its been a hard day. hmmm.... dont anyone be put off by Vic Acid though, it doesnt sound anything like the rest of the album. Pretty standard 303/breaks workout... it sounds like totally someone else! But i heard it live a while back and thought it was really good...time will tell... in fact it was the same gig where his master DAT for Hard Normal Daddy got chewed up by a new DAT machine... Now i believe that was an uncomfortable moment. kF *********************************** * Chris Morris for Prime Minister * ***********************************
