Finks Biography from ninja:
THE FINK started in the lo-budget environment of the Bristol underground,
moving to Leeds in 92, back to Bristol in 96, and then to the Big Smoke in
97. While in Leeds THE
FINK played in a number of Jazz / Funk outfits before abandoning the live
scene and heading back to his roots in eclectic electronica, a move
dictated by the pressures of
DJing in this burgeoning Trip Hop scene.
After cutting his teeth in the Leeds underground THE FINK signed to "KICKIN
RECORDS" and produced his early breakbeat stuff under the name "E.V.A.".
After dropping an
album that was critically acclaimed as "the best ambient album of the year
so far"(DJ) THE FINK powermoved to London.
Opening the "One Track Mind" series with the Drum and Bass workout "Oddly
Goddly" for NINJA, THE FINK signed his solo soul away to NTONE, which saw
the release of the
"FINKFUNK" EP in September 97. An ambitious cocktail of Drum n' Bass, laid
back R&B vibes and west country cheddar Trip Hop "FINKFUNK" clambered to
the dizzy heights
of No. 11 in the DJ Chart,
The Spring of '98 saw THE FINK collaborating with acts such as BRAN VAN
3000, as well as remixing, along with the majority of NINJA, SAKAMOTO. Then
came the
"FRONTSIDE"EP - continuing the Bristol vibe this EP contains Dub, Electro,
the fattest deep fried beats as well as the overall well-being of FINK
flavour, or is it phlava. The
luxury and confidence of THE FINKS delivery satisfied!!
So to the 2G - The FINK debut LP is released on NTONE in March - entitled
"FRESH PRODUCE" quite simply it rules - tubby breaks, grinding grooves - 12
original cuts
crossing styles galore - however this is no piecemeal selection - they are
the finest, handmade, PYO breaks available in the new year. Full of humour,
class and, dare I say it,
panache!!. The Bristol Bass sound underpins FINK'S production style and you
can almost taste the West Country in the vibes.
The finished product is an ambitous blend of textures and underground
styles, an eclectic chunk of lo-budget loungecore. Watch out for the single
dropping Febuary with an
exclusive HEFNER remix, and the FINKS R&B workout of the NINJA release "WE
ARE NINJA" available in January on NINJA TUNE.
(I didn't write all that by the way!)
Hope this helps!!
