Someone already did a describe of this but I think it's quite inaccurate
(IMO it's nothing like Expert Knob Twiddlers, I like this entire album, on
EKT I only like the first track, really :)
Anyhow, this is mostly ambient, a couple of tracks are child-like melodies
like he said. but lots of other tracks are GREAT! like the track Signpost
with the vocal in the background "Have you seen my baby".. At least I think
this is what it is, it is reverb'd to hell and back. Almost like the program
InACloud on the MidiVerb4 for all you owners of it :)
Another thing to note is the *frequent* use of bells, bleeps, beeps, and
bloops in this record.
A review of each track:
st martin - a childish track, very silly vocals and actually a really nice
track, it's only the vocals that are silly. The actual track seems almost a
bit loungy.
skip glider - very childlike melody, seems very similar to Goon Gumpas on
the RDJ LP, except this one has drumbeats in it.
the owl, pussycat - some ambient techno I reckon.. Highly comparable to the
more slower ambient stuff on µ-Ziq: Bluff Limbo, but quite different at the
same time.
signpost - starts off with a distorted melody line and bells. ends up with
bells only.. then after a while, the distorted melody is back with the "have
you seen my baby" vocal under a super amount of reverb. at one point it has
the vocal and the bells only, then the entire thing kicks back in again. The
reason I know what the vocal says, coz it's hard as shit to understand, is
that I have the "Halloween Horrors" 12" record it is taken from :) I love
this track.
pagan relict - this track uses some childish arpeggios, but it is actually a
_very_ beautiful track. ambient techno again, a bit experimental, just the
way I like it :)
moon pool - lots of bells and click sounds sounding like he is actually
making the clicking sound with his tongue off the roof of his mouth. has
some really strange sounding vocals: "wow, woww, wowie, woauihw, wee" etc.
squealing and stuff vocals.. like if he is making fun of the opera.
roller - has an ok melody, with a lead sample what sounds like a cat
meowing, and a typical drumloop,
bass-bass-snare-snarerush-snare-bass, etc.
clapping song - this one starts off with some noisy sound effects, as if he
is twiddling knobs and editing sounds, getting stuff ready for a live
performance, then it breaks into song. this is a really cool song. subtle
bassline with bells and strange noises overhead, and some not-so-raw sine
chords. this has a bit of hip-hop in it.
metal buffalo - modulating cut-off filters fill this track up, even chaotic
at some points, although the actual track is slow and mellow. another track
with a beautiful melody line. with what sounds like a warped choir in the
background swaying back and forth and trying to whistle, they almost have
it, but they just can't make it so it sounds like a low airy whistle with a
steady rhythm. this track is also a bit loungy and kicks it!
der kipper - a strict 4/4 tempo. repeated vocals "a bup!" or something.
repeated melody line, not too good of one, but a nice track none the less.
