Hey. Anyone out there gots a title 'n' track listing for the 6th Chrome
release? It's by Panacea, or an alias there-of. My copy's a white label -
I dunno if they're all like that or not.
Also, can anyone point me towards a Chrome discog? All I've got is 1
(Techno Animal) and 6+7 (both Panacea).
My two cents on this whole U2 thing, if anyone gives a shit - I haven't
heard anything else from the album, but "Discotheque" just sounds like a
bad Jesus Jones track to me. (Then again, is there such a thing as a
*good* Jesus Jones track? Hmmmm.....)
And regarding the ongoning MTV/sell-out/etc. debate - as the message
someone pulled from the '94 archives proves, this argument has been going
on for far too long. Yeah, schmoes like The Prodigy are going to be big
and will "bring techno to the masses", blah blah blah. So fuckin' what?
The "underground" ain't gonna go away. Labels like Spymania and Skam and
Chrome and all the rest of 'em will still exist in one form or another,
givin' us the good stuff. In fact, they'll probably work *harder* to push
the envelope as the mainstream appropriates more of the culture. Dunno
about you, but I think that'll be A Really Good Thing (tm).
Besides, you must admit that there's a healthy dollop of hipocrasy
underlying this debate. Example: I remember a time not too long ago that
the Chemical Brothers were the darlings of this list. Aside from bringing
whatshisface from Oasis in to do some vocals, I don't find "Setting Sun"
or anything else on the new album (got an advance cassette about a month
back) to be more "commercial" or "listener friendly" or whatever than Exit
Planet Dust. If anything, there are bits on Dig Your Own Hole that are
much more "difficult". Yet due to their increasing popularity, it just
ain't kewl to like 'em anymore. Eh, whatever. They might not have the I of
IDM, but goddammit, they're fun to listen to!
Greg
np: Lisa Carbon "Trio de Janeiro" (R.I.) - on first listen, not quite as
nice as "Polyester", but still good sleazy listening.
