Subject: (idm) Mpeg3
Does anybody know anything, or have any experience of using
mpeg3 audio files? I have heard they can give you up to
12:1 compression ratios on 44,100 sound files. I digitally
record all my tracks and often produce files in excess
of 60 meg therefore I would be very interested in the results
it can give.

I have a friend here at work who says that he plays his music through
mpeg3 format if he can -- it actually sounds *better* than his cd player,
because the d/a converters in it are not too modern. He raves about the
compression ratio, and others at work have used the format to play with
the dvd equipment in our lab. Imagine dvd + the quality of mpeg3 . . .
