I managed to pick up a copy Roupes first album "Strom" about eighteen months ago for about four quid. In my view it is a classic example of what IDM is about (which I refuse to define). Harsh abrasice sounds give way to delicately moulded patterns of sound and some of the tracks are reasonably upbeat. I think in many ways it is like Autechre for the following reason; it doesnt sound like it is programmed or played - it evolves without a definite sense of repetition (Im not talking about beats). Its like hearing some trip hop or trance and theyll use a sample like "exapands consciousness" or something that is supoposed to be 'deep' and it gets repeated in threes and you can predict the evolution of the track. Sometimes I wish Ae moved more in this direction - the potential for a more straight dance track by them is immense. I was also thinking how you could abstract the orchestral sounds from there music and make an album of that??!:) Has anyone heard Entelechy or know where I can get a copy??? r
