I any of you like the works of Scanner and live in Canada, (or get CBC
Newsworld from cable) you should definitely catch the Saturday night
replay of last night's Big Life show. (I think it's at 7pm, not sure
though, as I don't have the listings)
If you are not familiar with the show, it's a socio-cultural magazine
hosted by Daniel Richler. The subjects are usually great. (4-5 per 1
hour show)
I found Mr. Rimbaud to be VERY witty and extremely down to earth. Of
course, they talked a bit about his actual music, but most of all the
philosophy behind it. They even included a background piece about
cellular-phone-frequency scanners, just so we would understand better
what this artist does. (Also, probably because less than 10% of the
viewers actually care about Techno and Ambient, so the producers of the
show have to grab their interest from an other angle)
That interview ranks up with the one he did with Genesis P. Orridge
about a month ago, (That one was freaky) when they talked for fifteen
minutes about Genesis' thoughts on sampling, copyright and similar
matters. (Yeah, that old subject again. But beleive me, it wasn't the
same old answers. Besides, Daniel Richler knows the right questions to
ask and never ever stalls on an answer.)
If anyone is interested, the original broadcast of the show is Fridays
at 10pm, eastern time zone, (probably the same for all of Canada) on CBC
Newsworld.
Francis.
