Just went out to my snailbox and found the new issue of Newsweek staring at me with a picture of Secretary of State superstar Albright on the cover. Inside, in the arts section, youll find a lame article on idm and how its going to become the next big mainstream hit. Oh well, nothing is perfect.... William Cordray - urchin@io.com

Newsweek too? At the same time as... Time? This week's Time magazine (with a cover of actors from some little movie some Lucas guy did twenty years ago :) also has a little blurb in the celebrities/lifestyle section on the Chemical Brothers and electronica in general. Has an amusing line about how, since "techno types don't sing", they got that bro from Oasis for Setting Sun. Ed or Tom Chemical is quoted as saying "we don't even take microphones with us when we tour". Has a nice pic of the Brothers as well. Up next: a fourteen-page spotlight on Tom Jenkinson in Readers Digest. And Tom Brokaw interviews Richard D. James on MSNBC. And... On now:: erm, the Cardigans James Jung-Hoon Seo // Oracle New Media (415) 506-3829 // jseo@us.oracle.com Chewbacca. // Harrison Ford, on the Tonight Show, when asked who among his numerous co-stars was the best kisser

I agree completely. Things can only get better. Just because IDM is becoming mainstream doesn't necessarily mean it's all going to suck. There is going to be a lot more of this type of music, and yes, a lot of it will suck, but a lot of it will kick ass. As the major labels realize what a cash cow this new "trend" is, they'll be signing idm artists left and right. Some may say that will be bad but a lot of imaginative, unknown artists will get exposure that they might otherwise have not, and you might hear their track, buy their record, and become a devoted fan. If you don't like it, you won't have to buy it. I would much rather have idm be "the next big thing" than have the resident guitar oriented schlock remain the status quo. My .02 Halve phun, James

ABC's 20/20 program did an "expose" on that very story two or three weeks ago... It's amazing to hear parents blame "rave culture" for the OD deaths of their kids. I'm sympathetic to their terrible loss, but shutting down raves isn't going to help. -Peter

Well, It's sad to hear, but about 80% of the american population is trendy, and will go with the trend, no matter what it is.. However, I've gotten a few people in my college into AFX, Jungle, Goa.. These people like music such as Bush, GreenDay, etc. etc. It's good to see that there are people who like music just because they _like_ it and not coz it's the current thing. and a few of these people's reasons for liking AFX isn't because it's hard ;) I can't lie that I want the music to become a little more mainstream, it will be easier to get hands on, and we wouldn't have to worry about shitty things like losing tracks when buying the domestic releases like in some cases or others. also if it's mainstream, MTV would most likely play WAY more IDM videos that they are currently.
