I picked up a new release from the makers of the Volume and Trance Europe Express series last night, called "Breakbeat Science". 6 slabs o wax, 21 tracks, with the likes of 4 Hero, Spring Heel Jack, Omni Trio, A Guy Called Gerald, Soul Slinger, Plug, the list goes on and on... To my ears, this is all top notch stuff. I am not deeply versed in the history and ways of the past 3 years or so of how jungle and breaks have evolved, so to me, this sounds like a pretty good selection. Diversity among the tracks is what I've noticed most, with some being what I guess you'd call "techstep", to the more ambient-jungle of LTJ Bukem style. Here's the tracklisting: 4 Hero- Universal Love (Goldie Remix) Omni Trio- Red Rain Spring Heel Jack- Galapagos II (in special isolation) Tamsin- Innocence Solo- Dominion DJ Pulse- Planet Funk E-Z Rollers- Spin Out L Double & Younghead- New Style Roni Size & DJ Krust- Formulate Hidden Agenda- Vindication Aquasky- Sea Monkey DJ Trace & Nico- Area 51 Boymerang- Blue Notes Plug- Dark Matter Soul Slinger- The Singer Phume- Movin' On Skycutter- Independence Day A Guy Called Gerald- Fabio Witchman- Burnin' Headz Ed Rush- Comatone DJ Sappo- War Declared I also managed to get the deal of the century today... two used Technics 1210s for $500! I can finally mix proper, and I'm going to start with these six choice pieces of vinyl. on: Secret Knowledge- Sugar Daddy (Disco Eruption Mix) -- guyjr@ns.gt.ed.net | I.D.M.- That stage in sleeping when your feet are a.k.a., Guy Elden, Jr. | moving faster than your eyes.

Can anyone comment on the Diva content of Breakbeat Science? I can deal with the occassional heavily processed vocal (ie. not singing, merely vocalizing) sample floating in or out...put if there are full-on wailers (the kind that ruined Logical Progression), please warn me!! khannan suntharam kxs28972@bayou.uh.edu

Speaking of twisted female samples, a few nights ago, we dusted off an old copy of the abyss...half way thru the film, we spotted a sample used in that wicked TPower song, silver (i think). It was: 'We all see what we want to see. You have to look with better eyes...' At that point everyone in the room gasped and looked at each other in amazement! Just another silly moment in the life of a bunch of goofy trainspotters. peace out, brock ps. One of my friends also commented that he had heard that sample somewhere else...anyone out there got a clue? np: D'Arcangelo ep
