This is actually my buddy Joe Babylon's stuff. The *label* is Plug Research
and the *band* is R.E.A.L.M., which is Joe and co-label head Allan's project.
There's been a handful of Plug Research releases out, including a 12" by
Kim of Mono Junk, and a compilation 12" featuring Kid Spatula (Mike P.) and
Jamie Hodge (late of this IDM parish), along with R.E.A.L.M. and San
Francisco's Rook Valard. There's also a Phthalocyanine 12" (probably the
only Techno record extant by a Caltech student (-: ) and another R.E.A.L.M.
12" ... lessee ... and I think recently the last thing was a Lustmord 12" ...
(Brian Williams a.k.a. Brian Lustmord lives out here in Southern California
now, where he helps out Graeme Revell on his movie soundtracks. He's quite
a character, let me tell you ... )
It's hard to characterize the Plug Research releases but "experimental" is a
start. Joe certainly isn't interested in your average run-of-the-mill Techno,
that's for sure. (He *is* interested in Detroit Techno and is pretty much
single-handedly responsible for keeping interest in Detroit Techno alive in
Los Angeles, for which I owe him a huge debt of gratitude.)
Anyway, last I knew you could reach them at researc1@ix.Netcom.COM, although
last time I talked to Joe he was thinking about moving to Detroit to work
with Dan (DBX) Bell. Dunno if he did it or not, though.
