I saw *four* new Japanese compilations yesterday at Virgin San Fran: - The Aphex Twin Singles Compilation, basically collecting "On", "Donkey Rhubarb", and "Ventolin" - and not all the versions either - just 11 tracks culled from the many EPs. So if you've got them all, this is pretty useless. *Unless* you're a total trainspotter and must have track 12, "Respect List", which I guess is RDJ giving shouts to people he cares about. Or something like that. I have no idea what it might be. And despite my faltering Japanese skills, I read on the spine that the tracks were chosen by RDJ himself for the comp. - There are also similar-looking comps for Warp, R&S, and Rising High. The tracks are old and new, like the Warp comp has Sweet Exorcist as well as some AI tracks. The R&S one is not the same as the Vintage CDs that R&S themselves have been putting out. Overall I didn't see any rare tracks that made me want to pick up any of the three. There was a "Balil : Nort Route" on the R&S one, but I think it's the same version that's on Intergalactic Beats. BTW, MTV had a ChemBros spotlight thing for the MTV News segment, showing them in concert somewhere. MTV said the new album "Dig Your Own Hole" will be out sometime in March. With another US tour following that. Opening for U2, probably. Here's the info on the R&S comp: 74:23 R & S Classics Sony/R & S (JP) SRCS 7921 6.21 Jam & Spoon: Stella 5.10 Spectrum: Brazil (Lenny D Remix) 5.54 Beltram: Energy Flash 5.04 Sonic Solution: Beat Time (Remix) 5.29 Outlander: Steal My Love 6.00 Tournesol: Inside My Orgasmotron 5.39 Balil: Nort Route (R & S Remix) 3.45 C. J. Bolland: It's All in the Mind 5.44 Dave Angel: Free Flow 11.50 The Source Experience: Elektra 9.25 Speed Jack: Lightcone 4.02 Sun Electric: O'Locco (Orbital Therapy Pt 4) The Balil track is not the same mix as on 'Intergalactic Beats.' Overall, if you like the classic R&S sound, you'll like this one. Quite a few of the tracks don't appear elsewhere on CD, as far as I know (but I would've rather had that great remix of "Stella" that's on the CD5 with the butterflies on the cover). I'd like to see tracklists for the Warp and RH comps. C. -- C.Hilker (cspot@hyperreal.com) "He was mesmerized by the light-pictures, and the music sent him right into dreamland"

yeah Warner (Japan) wanted to do a special aphex thing and this is what they requested, a singles compilation, richard chose the tracks, some of which (ventolin ones) were harddisk edited to fit in with things, so they sound quite different out of the ventolin context, the respect list is the one from ventolin so it's nothing new, DR did some artwork for it btw : ::: aphex twin ::: aphex singles collection ::: wea japan WPCR-929 01 on 02 pancake lizard 03 ventolin (Crowsmanggegus mix (Edit)) 04 ventolin (cylob mix) 05 donkey rhubarb 06 ventolin (deep gong mix) 07 73 yips 08 icct hedral (philip glass orchestration) 09 ventolin (marazavose mix (Edit) 10 ventolin (asthma beats mix) 11 ventolin (caharrack mix) 12 respect list g.

I want to get this. Does anyone know of a good store for mailordering Japanese import CD's? Some of the prices I've seen for Japanese imports at the Virgin Records here in OC are ridiculous (35-40 dollars). Help me out trainspotters... Gonzi, I'd recommend a shop in Tokyo, called Plus One. I've been dealing with Mr. Sasaki the owner for around two years now, with no problems. Send him email about what you're looking for, and he'll send you the disc and a credit card bill which you fill in and send back. He can be slow with email sometimes, but he's always come through for me, and you won't have to pay ridiculous import prices - but rather, ridiculous Japanese domestic prices. :) The email is: SAJ97761@pcvan.or.jp Cheers, James Jung-Hoon Seo // Oracle New Media (415) 506-3829 // jseo@us.oracle.com [I want to] just... sit in a room with George Lucas and let him know that, hey...
