it's off the album "Love's Secret Domain" which i think is a really brilliant album. i'm not wild about that particular track, there are much better ones on the album. -- Name: Jon Email: jsd@cyborganic.com Web: http://www.cyborganic.com/bass-kittens/

Well I rushed out and bought "Stolen and Contaminated Songs" because NASA Arab blew me away, and didn't much cotton to the rest of the tracks. IMHO the album's brilliant thought "Love Secret domain" is superior. Coil's older work is much more industrial but it's monotony might equal NASA Arab's (if that's yr taste). Coil Vs. ElpH "Protection" EP on Eskaton can be said to be in NASA Arab's vein thought it is much more Technoey. On the latest 'Unnatural history II' try the 2nd and last tracks called 'Theme from blue' (pts 1/2) for another taste. (the) snow.

Nothing else uses that kind of polymeter, but large portions of _Love's Secret Domain_ run in that general direction. However if you didn't like the rest of the tracks on S&CS you might want to listen before you buy. On Wed, 27 Dec 1995, Kent Williams wrote:

Most of Coil's material is VERY random......Each track is different in style and structure......for something a bit like Nasa Arab try the NIN remix of the downward spiral/eraser. Or they do a remix of the song Dreamscape by Scorn. An AMAZING track they do is called "First Dark Ride" which is the b-side to the Nasa Arab 12in.....apparently this 12in is hard to find but.... There is also the Coil vs Elph ep .....it has a song on it called Protection that would get everyone up on the dancefloor...trust me if you were a dj and played this track..I guarantee people will be asking what it was. And don't forget the Snow ep.....this was just recently reissued. Coil also go under the psuedonym, "Black Light District". They have a record coming out Jan. 15 called, "A Thousand Lights in a Darkened Room". This release will supposedly be in the same vein as "Protection".... You never know with Coil..they are always full of suprises. -Darren ...................... .................... ............. ............ ................ ................... as well as what was mentioned the Loves Secret Domain album might also be a little more like what you you were looking for.. well at least parts of it. I definitely would get the Snow EP and the Nasa Arab 12inch which I believe Ear-Rational@xmission.com has. And the Coil vs ELpH Protection single is also recommended. I wouldn't get the ELpH vs. Coil Worship the Glitch CD unless you like the other three tracks on the Protection single. _john

Think you're talking about the PWOG Rejammed double 12". Theres a good Mark Broom mix on there, and the Coil remix is completely hatstand. It's worth hunting down. Did you hear Coil's recent album 'Black Light District' , not sure if it was entirely a Ltd Edition release I know my copy was. Anyway, if you can find one it is there best album IMHO, and worth whatever large price tag is attached (within reason). - Stray 'Technique is Not Meaning'

This is something to look out for! I always put Ae and Coil in the same bag or at least I move into the same state when listening to them, that is tuning for precision and direction in a sublinimal way, something that many artists don't have and that is alright; But it's good to know someone is realy looking beyond... and not in the goa trance 'way-out' style. mmm.. didn't make myself clear but whatever, 2cents etc. Snow.

the unreleased themes for hellraiser are all on unnatural history II. first released on a 10"--3 tracks with music for commercials as the b-side. then released on cd with 6 tracks on torso records (minus music for commercials). unnatural history II has all 6 tracks plus three more from the same sessions. unnatural history III (which i'm assuming you own considering that "first dark ride" is the first track) has music for commercials. i'm sure all this stuff is up on their homepage (www.brainwashed.com/coil/) but i've been unable to access it for a while now. -marc- On Mon, 17 Nov 1997, wells wrote:

Strangely, the sound quality of the Hellraiser tracks is much better on the CDEP than on Unnatural History II. The latter contains an unusual amount of disortion, which wouldn't seem to be intentional. Since the Hellraiser CDEP is quite gone, though, this may be useless information except for audiophile trainspotters. --Mark

Hmmm... and i was going to get rid of mine because i thought it would be better to have all the stuff on one disc! It's also ironic, considering Coil usually have a perfectionist approach when it comes to releasing anything. If people are going to re-release stuff, they should give you a reason (like bonus tracks and/or improved sound quality) to buy it. What about the other stuff on Unnatural History? Notice any differences there? no@h . . . . . . ..... . . . . . . byw|11a10ne|5e+mym|nd|nm0+|0n|+|5bythejv|ce0f5aefev++ha++h0vgh+5acqv|re5peed the1|p5acqv|re5+a|n5+he5+a|n5bec0meawarn|ng|+|5byw|11a10ne|5e+mym|nd|nmo+|0n . . . . . . ..... . . . . . .

I wrote to ask about this at the time, but got no reply. I was thinking the same thing -- did I really have a better copy available than Coil, was the distortion deliberate, or...?

"Another Brown World" and "Contains a Disclaimer" were the only other tracks available on CD already at the time (well, "The Hills are Alive" also, but I don't have that comp). Those 2 seemed fine to me. I may even have compared them closely, given the distortion on the Hellraiser tracks, but I don't recall. The other tracks were on 7" vinyl, which is a problem to start with, sound-wise. --Mark

While HR has some wonderful bits, it has at least as many cheesy parts - I don't think it's quite as good as people say, although 'the anal staircase' and 'who by fire' are among coil's best songs. People on this list would do well to look into Black Light District, Love's Secret Domain, and/or the Snow ep. All amazing. Protection too probably, but I haven't heard it. --- the humble abbott arthur purvis set his hand hereto

for those that care, i saw the nww "rock and roll station/2nd pirate sessions" vinyl for $17.99 -- far cheaper than the initiall 26.99 (what i paid -- ouch haha!) only 5 or so songs on it though.. is this standard? or is my record store selling them way cheaper? chris.
