Cujo "Adventures in Foam" Ninebar Records NOZACD003 I bought this disc based on a subliminal remembrance of a recommendation on IDM ... and I'm glad I did. I guess by know you all know that I don't actually 'review' records, I just pipe up when something strikes my fancy... At any rate I came to this music knowing nothing about Cujo. What I found was a wonderful bastard admixture of sounds -- some tracks would drop right into the 'Headz' compilation, and others might be the love child of Throbbing Pouch and Hangable Autobulb. Others have a decidedly 'real jazz' feel -- shades of Weather Report. Every cut on here flies for me -- lots of little touchs in the production keep it interesting, like on 'traffic' where the drum programming has parts recorded with 3 different types of reverb that dart in and out. 'Paris Streatham' is an especially cheeky bit of sample theft, with a pedigree that would make David Toop blather on for pages. The main theme and miscellaneous sounds come from the title theme for the movie 'Paris, Texas' by Ry Cooder, which in turn is his performance of a Robert Johnson song. In a certain sense, it recapitulates the history of recorded music in this century, and manages to be a nice drum & bass track in the bargain. If you like Plug, Squarepusher, TPower, etc this disc is for you. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Stop thinking, and end your problems" -- Tao Te Ching Home Page, featuring Reagan on Black Velvet, the EMP Compilation CD, samples of my music, etc http://soli.inav.net/~kent/ Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

Kent, is this an album? I have thier "Salivate" EP [NOZB04], which features "Paris/Streatham" as well as "Cruzer", which is my best track of the vinyl, and none of other releases I know.
