Muslimgauze-Drugsherpa Mini CD 20.25 min STMCD001 STAALPLAAT Very nice slow build of rythm over a drone. With added eastern string instruments. 1 track of 20 min 25 secs. File under spookyeasternambience Muslimgauze-Maroon CD 61.13 min STAALPLAAT no cat.no. found on the CD 9 tracks of typical Muslimgauze stuff. Eastern influenced Industrio-ambient with western technology, with samples from palestinian people (I assume) talking and street scenes. Some tracks good, some tracks beautiful some tracks pretty much a bore. There is a tendency to use the same sounds, effects and melodies over and over. The cover is a very nice digipak with rough cardboard and print reminding me of Indepent Product Press printwork (the guys from Savage Republic), maybe even done by them. Inside is a postcard with a text in support of the Intifadah (what else...) Muslimgauze-Blue Mosque Double CD (!) 52.40, 50.54 STAALPLAAT ST CD 081 Ah this sounds a bit like industro-rai-triphop to me :). Repetitive as ever, Bryn Jones seems to take a bit more of the dancefloor aproach here, even adding distorted tabla beats here and there. Slow tempos, still a bit lacking in sonic diversity. Could be viewed as a collection of pretty long loops. Not very good for intensive listening, again, with a lot of the tracks the boredom sets in pretty soon. Most of the grooves are great. This is probably a good record to sample beats of !

assuming you meant: Muslimgauze-Hamas Arc CD 40.34 min STAALPLAAT ST CD 051 This seems to be a compilation of "The Shekel of Israeli Occupation" and "Vote Hezbollah". Starts out comparable with the "Drugsherpa" track, only with frantic tablaish beats. Still very minimal in structure, this one is more to the ambient side. And what's with beginning *every* track with a fade-in ?!? I like the sounds and the rythms, but the point is that it sounds like "another Muslimgauze record" ! I don't mind listening to it at all, only when you've heard two Muslimgauze CD's, you've heard pretty much all of what he does. That's all I can tell you, Allert PS the Occupied Territories CD is great indeed. Nice to see lotsa ppl taking a lot of different approaches to Muslimgauze's sounds. Maybe Bryn Jones can learn something here. -- "No corporation will ever pay a creator enough to sue them successfully." -Dave Sim, creator of Cerebus Allert Aalders - Big Time Concepts - allert@knoware.nl - KoX
