In the past I was not always a fan of DJ Shadow's stuff but the new album is amazing. One should be wary of hype, but in this case I actually agree with the review in Muzik which ends w/ 'buy, buy, buy.' The beats are truly masterful with a lot of very warm drum sounds....lots o' toms and rides (full kit sounds). Even if you don't like headz type stuff you should definantly give this album a listen. Lots of samples expertly woven. I don't like the Midnight in a Perfect world track...and if you heard it and it threw you off you still owe Entroducing a listen. As for the Carl Craig remixes (also out on Mo Wax) it also is purty amazing. The peshay mix is definantly the pick o' the litter, but the 4 Hero mix is also great (as are the craig mix and the one by Future/Past.....) This release is solid. For those who like unconventional break beats w/ lots o melody and tracks that take you on a journey the Peshay mix is a must. Good for that intellijungle thread from a little while back. Also, I just wanted to say that I thought it was strange that nobody mentioned Roni Size or the Magic Box Comp on Full Cycle in the course of those posts. It shreds on Logical Progression and just about any other jungle comp I've heard. lots o melody and chord progressions... very good...

I agree completely. This album is a must have for all fans of sample-based music and hip-hop in general. MoWax did an excellent job of signing this SF based DJ. Props to Lavelle for his good intuition and to the man himself, the Shadow, for bringing us this piece of art. If you are familiar with the "What does your Soul Look Like" single, then this is sort of an excursion from that; the album is more reminiscent of a complete picture (which the single was too, but this picture is bigger!). Give it a listen or 5 and then tell me I'm wrong..... ben gill
