Meat Beat Manifesto Loop Guru Electric Skychurch DJ SPooky Are playing at the Fillmore in SF Sat Sept 28th; doors 8PM, show 9PM. costs $15.00 -- tix available sans BASS ripoff at Fillmore Box office every Sunday 10-4PM. 1805 Geary @ Fillmore, SF 415 346-6000 PS: has anybody outside of CA seen this tour? How was it? PPS: anybody heard of Electric Skychurch? What/how are they? PPPS: I just won 2 tickets to Art Ensemble of Chicago at Yoshi's (9/17) from KZSU! They asked for the name of one of the band members, and I of course answered Anthony Braxton since he was in A.E.o.C. back in the day... I told the radio guy that I was "cheating" since I don't know the names of the current AEoC lineup, but he was satisfied that I was enough of a trainspotter to go... =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= == Niels Mayer -- http://www.eit.com/~mayer -- mayer@netcom.com == =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I saw Loop Guru/Dr Alex Patterson/MBM here this past Monday. Loop Guru played about 7 or 8 drum loops, played along to them on three different drum sets, while one girl screamed into a microphone along with the screaming wailing sounds on the DAT, and a bald headed guy played guitar. Amazingly enough, the crowd _really_ got into some of their stuff. Must have been cause most of them looked like they'd been there for Nine Inch Nails the night before. LX was king. Tops. Ace. His mixing skills leave a little to be desired, but his choice of music sure as hell doesn't. He's got quite a collection of _stuff_. All styles represented, but the second half of his 1 hour set focussed squarely on Drum n Bass/Jungle. He was really getting into it on some tracks, even dancing around a bit. Can't wait to hear the new album! Meat Beat segued nicely into LX's set, and played about 10 minutes of stuff that Jack claimed: "We're just making this shit up.". Yeah... right. ! :) "It's In my BRAAAAIN now.!" Woah... that number (3rd track they played) got _everyone_ slamming around. Couple of fights broke out as people tried to mosh, bouncers carried them away. But the vibe was well established by that song. Everyone carried it through on the other choice cuts, like Electric People (160 BPM!?!?!? MASSIVE!), Asbestos Lead Asbestos, etc... Lots of energy as usual from Jack and the lads.

Electric Skychurch are an ambient/IDM type troupe. Not sure who is in the group, but my favorite release by them was the Deus single (the long version that takes up one side of the record). -- guyjr@cc.gatech.edu | I.D.M.- That stage in sleeping when your feet are a.k.a., Guy Elden Jr. | moving faster than your eyes.
