Yup, I'm using the MIDI::Realtime[1] CPAN module (which I had to write
myself :). I don't have any .mp3's just yet but here's one of my friends
first Perl music experiments (he has done a lot of other very good,
heavily interactive stuff in other languages on the Mac):

He put some sequenced (non-generative) drums under that. I have done some
generative polyrhythms for it since but as I say, not in mp3 yet.
