Does anyone out there have a discography and/or any information about Bochum Welt? I recently picked up the _Phial ep_ on Axodya records and was blown away by it. I think I remember hearing that there was some Bochum Welt stuff on Rephlex, but I can't be sure. I was even a good little puppy and searched the IDM archives for Bochum Welt information and came up empty handed. Thanks in advance. +----------------------------------+ | Eric Frans | | franse@bigdog.engr.arizona.edu | +----------------------------------+

i would recommended it as well but.................. full price for 8 tracks -> seems a bit cheeky , even thought the back sleeve tries to fool yer into thinking there are more - by using a mock up basic programme.. stylee - take cold classical stylings of kraftwerk add wit of drexyica and yer might be half there - it aint a patch on the DMX Crew release though. BTW -same as the Advent's latest release (remix LP) , which has 8 tracks on both CD & LP. the vinyl costs the *same* as what a full price cd would retail at for shops to buy in! its not on mate. as some old puuunk rawker put it back in 77 (man) "its just a fake make no mistake a rip off for you and a rolls for them" ; ) sm@ 4th world records uk http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4thworld on now - b12 - prelude .

The Bochum Welt disk is definately an excellent cd. I reminds me on Kinaeshasia's Empathy Box mixed with APhEX'S SAW 1 with a bit of Kraftwerk thrown in. As far as the times I would have enjoyed a longer album but as for the songs, they totally work being the length that they are. Themes are brought in and out but not worn out. Its kinda refreshing to see somebody writing shorter songs. ROB

Then it should have been an EP. I mean, the Gentle People "Journey" EP was 40+ minutes, and 30 is classified as an EP anyways. I don't get it. I can understand a 50 minute album, but under 30 minutes? Makes it very hard for me to want to pick it up. It may be good, but it's not an album in the strictest sense. Got Bochum Welt 'Module 2' LP on the way to work, can't listen to it yet (they won't buy me a 1200 for work ;-). The cover is brilliant, IMHO...a takeoff on old Atari 2600/Activision Cart boxs. Elements from many different games of the period, plus more, like the little blue turntable and Rephlex "UFO" on top. Bleep, ping, zowee! For all you non-Basic/Commodore heads out there, here is a hand simulated run of the program on the back: (CLEAR SCREEN, TOP OF SCREEN) ON '?' PROMPT, PRESS RETURN... SIDE 1, TRACK 1 IS ENTITLED AVTOMATICESK ? SIDE 1, TRACK 2 IS ENTITLED RADIOPROPULSIVE ? SIDE 1, TRACK 3 IS ENTITLED PAPH ? SIDE 1, TRACK 4 IS ENTITLED LUNAKHOD ? SIDE 2, TRACK 1 IS ENTITLED ASTEROIDS OVER BERLIN ? SIDE 2, TRACK 2 IS ENTITLED B2 ? SIDE 2, TRACK 3 IS ENTITLED MECHANIQUE ? SIDE 2, TRACK 4 IS ENTITLED THAT'S MUTUALITY ? (CLEAR SCREEN, TOP OF SCREEN) BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 (990 times more) BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 BOCHUM WELT -MODULE 2 READY (blink, blink?) Long live Commodore! Great idea boys, props out to everyone at Rephlex. I'm sure I'll have just as much fun with the music. word out, brock p.s. REPHLEX: you guys should have put a ; at the end 140, with a space between the 2 and last quote. Makes a cool animated pattern rather then just straight down the page...maybe throw some of those cool graphic characters in?

from Frontpage 7/95, as transcribed in the Application Notes section of the Bochum Welt page: http://www.xnet.com/~jjdavis/bw/fp0795.htm Q: how did you come upon this name? A: I was always interested in technology, in all its forms, Music, Graphics and for example, scientific films. Three years ago, a couple friends and i began to become interested in a new kind of telescope with which you could observe the whole world from a great distance. The telescope was called Bochum and so i called my project Bochum Welt. The meaning of the name should really be: to see the world with different eyes as it really is, in an introspective manner. Q: you were never in the city of Bochum? A: No, i know nothing of a city by that name. But if you mean that the city is a little hard to get to, then i must say that i like that. I love desolate and miserable cities, because the people must always create, in order to escape from reality. The most creative cities in Europe are mostly in the north. Exactly for this reason. rest of interview + many more background infos at the site!!!! Quite surprised I haven't heard talk about the new Bochum Welt LP, as he is a fairly big name on the melodic, beautiful IDM tip. Some don't seem happy with his new direction, but I thought it was fantastic. Vocals, piano interludes, ambient soundscapes: each track is doing the same Bochum Welt thing with a different delivery. I think it's hard to pull this off and gutsy to experiment, but he did it so damn well. This is a really good record. Buy it. wow, how did this one slip from my attention?! I had no clue that Bochum Welt had a new LP. Will it be readily available? How many lables does he have deals with? I know that there's Rephlex and Elypsia (or something like that) but who is releasing the latest. Boy, everybody should observe "RE: All this music" in action with this very post. john - the new EP (not really an LP, gian's never really released anything long enough to be classified as an album) is out now on darla/fuzzybox at domestic US prices, so no excuses. it's very melodic and mature (translated: your parents may like it as much as you) and shows GdC's love of melody and willingness to continue to try new things. his new stuff for thomas dolby's headspace and the soundtrack/muzak stuff for firstcom takes the melodic bent even further. he doesn't really have label 'deals' per say, but you can find stuff on rephlex, trance communications, axodya, kromode, sony-japan, headspace, elypsia and now darla/fuzzybox. look for new stuff in 3" CD format on of all places, ant zen. np: metamatics: escher elevator peeeeeeece, -- Jeff Davis pHlow@earthlink.net fn:216.533.6303 fx:216.266.2310 text:2165336303@mobile.att.net pHlow.linx: home.earthlink.net/~phlow/ Bochum Welt: www.bochumwelt.com Rotator Locator: hyperreal.org/music/rotator/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
