Odd Size CD OS 16
martichore
catoblepas
bahmout
le singe de l'encre
kraken
le cheval de mer
la trule qui porte des chaines
This one is a mixed bag, and that's a GOOD THING.
Definitely halfway between the dancefloor and a chillroom, close to
big couch.
The first number is a straighthead techno-rockish houser...if the
rest of the album had been like this, I wouldn't post to "I"dm. Its
nice and unremarkable on its own, but when you see it set against the
mosaic (1) of the rest of the album, its fine.
catoblepas is an ambient dubbish sort of excursion.
bahamout is an epic number with some really nice beaty dancey parts
and some more ambient dub bleepiness. 16 mins long. some
french-speaking samples.
le singe de l'encre is another techno-houser which might get your
booty shaking. subtle detroit rhythms are in there. more samples in
french. it segues into another stetch of ambient dubness, and then
another techno houser emerges. an even nicer one
kraken is deeply darkly ambient with some (pleasant) industrial
overtones.
le cheval de mer is nice. it starts out as some detroit ambience and
then kicks into a full fledged (ambient) houser after 3 mins or so.
and the last song is dubby and trip hoppy.
This is a CD which has some VERY LOW bass frequencies utilized. The
CD doesn't sound right in the car or the bedroom.
I wish I could I point to someone that has this same sort of sound,
but I can't, and that's a GOOD THING (in my book anyway <g>)
I would be interested in hearing more about Laurent Pernice. This CD
was apparently recorded in Cologne in 1994-1995.
I got it from PBE
chunke@nash.pubnix.net (david & karen)
He has a lot of other cheap, cool stuff, too.
Also just in:
Floating Point: Between Worlds (Vile Music INFCD001) : This is
really nice melodic technohouse.
Planet Love Volume 2 (by Marco Repetto of Synetics)
(Superstition Records, Super 2067)
This is nice too. Detroit dance rhythms with lots of ambience.
Somewhat ssimilar to Synetics, but better, and a double CD. This is
one of the better albums of Detroit-influenced dance music. No
cheesey vocals either.

Thanks for the bandwidth, and cheers from New Orleans.
Anything cool IDM wise to do in Minneapolis 14-24 Sept 1996?
