I just got Locust - Truth is born of arguments about 4 days ago. I can't believe this! Never judge a CD by it's cover...I had ordered this & was looking thru my section where I work & completely glanced over it & didn't notice (there's a depressed-looking girl on the cover). Then I saw the list of new stuff that came in, & tried to find Locust. I put it on in the store & was blown away! People were getting scared! Anyways, I have to ask, is the rest of Locust stuff like this? I ordered Weathered Well & I think one more album, what should I expect? (oh yes, song titles are the best...) Also found an older Leo Anibaldi CD used but didn't have the money, think iit had a neon cover & looked "typical old electronic" in the art & stuff. What's this like? Worth getting? Anthony

For those of you who haven't seen the cover of the new Locust album, and who might have searched for it like I did, and who can't find the rekkid etc etc... http://www.rsrecords.com/locthth.gif There's the cover. John, who likes it.
1996-08-27 18:14James B Gillmaybe you should join the locust news group. He's the bomb. Anyway, imo, Truth is Born...

maybe you should join the locust news group. He's the bomb. Anyway, imo, Truth is Born... is a lot* darker than most of his other stuff. People will disagree. I do find that Weathered Well is pretty dark, and I like it better than Truth... but they're both ace. Definitely get Weathered Well and Natural Composite. He's got a new single called "no one in the world", but I've put off buying it since it has vocals by Karen Carpenter. (A little negative influence on my buying records is female vocals; unless it's sarah peacock!) Anyway, the new album should be interesting.... also, a mate told me yesterday that there's a new project with all the members of Seefeel under another name. Forgot what it's called though.... There was already a track out there which used Karen Carpenter's vocals, also called something similar to "No one in the world". Does anyone remember who it was? I think it came out last year sometime. At any rate, the vocals are magnificent (this coming from someone who mostly hates vocals on Techno records, unless it's Ofra Haza snippets) and the tune was brilliant. In short, don't let "since it has vocals by Karen Carpenter" put you off. - Greg

I don't know when it originally came out but it was on Excursions in Ambience - The Second Orbit. It may have also been on an Astralwerks 12" promo for that compilation. It was credited to WFO. I just got the new Locust _No-One in the World_ yesterday and I like it. It's got the original WFO mix (the full 12 min. version as opposed to the 10 min. edit on EIAII) plus a couple of intelligent jungle mixes (one of em's full of jazzy horns and tape echo) and a minimal ambient mix. Recommended.... I'm studying electronic music this semester at my school and now I'm determined to come up with my own "No-One in the World" mix... Matt

I don't have it in front of me, so I can't tell you much other than it can be found as the first track on Excursions in Ambience 2 (The Second Orbit), from Astralwerks.

I concur. One of the best uses of sampled female vocals I've ever heard, and a beautiful song overall. Weathered Well has quite a different sound from TIBOA but the way Mark Van Hoen mixes scary beaty tracks with beautiful ambient tracks is consistent. Don't get put off by the repetitiveness of some of the tracks in Weathered Well, I was at first but now it all makes sense. If you love unusual scary music then you HAVE to buy the Involution album by Aurobindo (Mark Van Hoen / Daren Seymour). -Ed

Weathered Well is easily the best locust I've heard and I own everything. If I had to recommend one Locust record that would be it....for the first three tracks alone. T.
