Just caught the Low Res Film Festival here in Los Angeles on Friday night. They have a special music oriented program called Feel Surreal, featuring Ken Ishii's "Extra" (fucking amazing Japanese anime), "Hypnosis" by DHS, four videos from Underworld ("Banstyle," "Pearl's Girl," "Born Slippy," "Cowgirl"), three short films scored by Meat Beat Manifesto (tracks are kinda cool and ravey; films are a little distracting) and the 40-minute "Art Futura" film from FSOL. The festival will be hitting Berkeley, San Francisco, New York and London in October, so keep an eye out for it. There is also a regular program with short films that look very interesting but I only had time to catch the music portion... i was a bit disapointed in this festival, or at least the music video part. i also wasn't able to see the regular films. the ken ishi video was amazing and definitely my favorite, but the h-gun/meat beat videos were pretty boring on their own. these are the films that meat beat are using in their live performances. i would have much rather seen their older "storm the studio" era videos on a big screen instead. the underworld videos didn't grab my interest at all. the FSOL video would have been excellent if it lasted no more than 10 minutes. after that it was overload/overkill. it also didn't help that the music for the FSOL video was turned up so high that it sounded like it blew a speaker. david *+* on now gastr del sol-upgrade and afterlife http://home.connectnet.com/lotus/
