Sorry for jumping into this thread so late, but the idea of seeing our
fav artists on the tuba is kinda neat.
I am skeptical, however, that MTV can do this right. They have the
dubious distinction of riding the current wave, no matter where it takes
them. Just look at the filth that grunge and rap have become and you can
see that genres that were once respectible are now a joke. My gut
feeling is that stuff like Rednex and Moby will dominate after a short
while because of their commercial appeal; and as we all know MTV's
existence depends upon the masses, not us puny IDM'ers.
The fact is that REGARDLESS of how MTV affects the IDM show, the music
that WE love will not be affected. There will still be an 'underground'
for us to enjoy because we will be creating it and taking part in it.
Sure, Aphex might decide to go for the big bucks, but someone else will
take his place. Same goes for any artist.
So which IDM artist should be the proverbial Buggles? "Video killed the
IDM star...." ;-)
