someone from A'werks said Mtv will have new show on electronic music with some of our favorite artist's videoes. Well I am all for videos, and I am the one who started this Mtv thread, but I am 100% against Mtv having this program. i don't have to explain how Mtv ruins, yes they ruin by co opting artists, the specific genre they are exploiting. I turned away from what was once "alternative" and ended up on the IDM thing thanks to folks like you. I only hope this AMP show doesn't become 120 mins. then every little computer whiz kid will have analogue gear and the market will be saturated with useless talent. Should I mention green day and all the wanna bees. sorry to be so hard on Mtv, but history repeats itself folks. Erm, you mean useless crap releases (talent is a word I save for those 'with it') in which case you're too late. The market is already saturated in that respect. All in all, if this AMP show goes off they'll *have* to hire me (Aran M. Parillo) and Fluid (Alan M. Parry) as hosts! Teep

I can see it now... "Hi, I'm Aran Parillo, host of MTV's AMP, here with British techno artist Richard D. James. Now Richard, your new album that will be in stores nationwide this Tuesday, that's called 'I Just Don't Care Anymore Because You Obviously don't Either'... tell me, wheere did you come up with a title like that?" RDJ:"Zzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzz.... mmmph... wha... what?" Teep: "Okay, we're going to have to take a break... when we come back, we'll have new ones from Autechre, B12, SquarePusher, and that new act that's moving fast up to a number one position in the Billboard charts, Mike and Moby. And don't forget to pick up the new album 'I Just Don't Care Anymore Because You Obviously Don't Either'; available Tuesday at your local Tower Record stores. Tower. The record store for the intelligent listener. We'll be right back."

artists, the specific genre they are exploiting. I turned away from what was once "alternative" and ended up on the IDM thing thanks to folks like you.<<<<< Folks like me? Brother, I've been in this since 1990, not that gives me any sort of membership card or anything... I'm a firm believer in keeping things down low, but there comes a time when the marketplace demands it. I'm skeptical as you are, but I've seen the pilot - you haven't. I sat down with the person at MTV in January to offer Astralwerks' input on how this show could be the coolest possible, and that's keeping it as underground as possible. No cheesy human hosts like Dave Kendall or Eric Nies or who the fuck ever to goof it up. Videos chosen on visual creativity and musical merit, not how much hype there is. I'm right there with you, it's my greatest fear that once the programmers at MTV see this baby they'll start trying to inject LaBouche videos with fucking fractals in this because they think that that's what we want. Wouldn't you rather have something decent on MTV for once? As someone who grew up watching Peter Gabriel (when he was cutting edge), Adam & The Ants, and all kinds of really cool shit on MTV in its early days, I for one would! As for history repeating itself, it already is, my friend. If you haven't noticed, RAVE music is back. It may not be Belgian hoover synth sounds ala Dominator, et. al., but it's back. We all know what's credible and what's not. There will always be an underground. It's your job and mine to make the mainstream come down to our level, not make the underground rise to the mainstream. Just heard that MTV signed Dennis Rodman on to do a weekly show. I wonder if they'll give him the show... If that's the case, the letters IDM might come to stand for Iridescent (hair)Doo Man.. I, for one, WANT all this stuff to be on Mtv. That's right, 24 hours of Aphex Squarepusher Autechre, Coldcut, Panik Trax, with the most wacked out videos on the channel (like it will ever happen, but I'm hoping). I will probably have moved on to the rad music that the popularization of these artists inspires, though, but that's what I'm after--rad music. Speed up history, people, don't stagnate it like a bunch of Bon Jovi fans. I'm so sick and over this "it's OUR music, and THEY can't have it" mentality. How much of this music would you have in your collection if selfish idiots just kept it for themselves, an esPECIally vivid proposition given all the no-sunlight bedroom geeks that make this stuff (yo, myself included). And hey, if someone's going to reap all this cash that's flowing through MTV exposure, shouldn't one of them be that guy from rephlex (think of it, they wouldn't have any other excuses beyond laziness for a sporadic release schedule)? I try to turn everyone I can onto the music I like because I want the more newer stuff that influxes of ideas bring to music. Fuck you. eric

Amen. It's a RESPONSIBILITY. If you love this music, do something to save it. Write a letter to MTV, make a phone call, create some GOOD music, but don't just sit there on your ass pointing fingers. It's up to all of us to widen this circle of 'exclusivity' and share the CORRECT information and vibe with people who don't subscribe to IDM. MTV only has the power to ruin it, if you let them. As far as I'm concerned, they've gone on far too long without getting checked. It's about time. My 2 sense. Yeah, god forbid someone who doesn't look or dress or think in a way you approve of might actually HEAR this music and LIKE it -- you'd have to find an entirely new lifestyle to adopt lest someone think you were ONE OF THEM! the horror, the horror . . . -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo)
