I just got back from legendary Berkeley, and have picked up some interesting shit from the bargain bins. Most I know about, but a few have me scraching my head: Atom Heart - Morphogenetic Fields (Rough Trade) This album is totally cool! I've been hearing a lot about Atom Heart recently, but haven't dived into his stuff until now. Ambient bliss mixed in with discordant bleeps and whacked-out percussion, very diverse. Not talked about much, it's from 1994. Anyone else have this? Synectics in the Purple Universe (Rephlex) WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?? There's no tracklisting, and the jewel case is purple. CAT 006 CD. From waaaaay back in 1993. Very minimal at times. The first track is over 20 minutes long and is quite good. In fact the whole album is pretty neat-o. Apparently this was the first CD that Rephlex ever released. Bedouin Ascent - Science, Art and Ritual (Rising High) Bought this only because of the label and the 9.95 price. This is kinda syrupy upon first listen, but maybe it'll grow on me. Any additional information on these albums would be appreciated -bob

But it wasn't released in 93, in fact only last year (this is not unusual for rephlex - see idm postings passim). ABB3 certainly came out on CD long before this, and I suspect that "Tango'n'Vectif" was the first CD they actually released. a good record, i agree. there is a cd single (don't know about vinyl) release from this called milagro which contains 2 alternate versions of milagro, one an edited version (timewise) and the other pretty much the same as on the full length but with the addition of a bit of looped female spoken word vox (spanish). also 3 other songs: as she left, opacity, slow motion (totally unlike the ambient (holon) slo motion from m.f.), all taking the heavy beat route. mike

Man. You know what you guys did? Because of your post, I popped in the "Milagro" cd single, set it on `repeat', and then accidentally fell asleep. So there I am, foetus-curled on my pit set, all the lights on, for hours and hours, with Uwe's housey acid electronica bleeping and blooping its way into my REM-induced brain... Carmen Miranda kept popping up in my dreams (or maybe it was Lisa Carbon) whispering over and over again: "es Milagro ... es Milagro". :} Too bad my turnatable doesn't have auto repeat... otherwise I'd have one of my MIKE McCOY's stacked on there for hours to no end. Maybe a CD-R is on the menu for upcoming `things-to-do'? Gotta get motivated. mota. .-. qp; christopher miller == evil@digital.net ' on now: "Empathy Box" by KINESTHESIA
