I really don't know how you folks are ever going to figure out a term
that is rooted in a self-contradiction. The "Intelligent" in IDM was
simply to mark it as "Dance Music for Listening" as opposed to "Dance
Music for Dancing." Dance Music that isn't quite Dance Music, but at
some point derived from Dance Music.
Why people get so snarled up in the "I" of "IDM" when the "DM" part is
usually even less appropriate baffles me. Even though the three words
were originally put together for a specific reason at a specific point
in time, the music has evolved so quickly since then that you're only
going to get confused if you now try prying them out of context and
even more confused when you pry them apart to see what's inside.
But even if there were some way to make sense from the term, nothing
is really achieved. The only way to get anywhere is through the music
itself. No manner of word-manipulation will take you to where the music
is.
Please, give it up. You aren't getting anywhere, and the racket is
getting annoying. Discuss the music, not the damn words!
