My Bloody Valentine Threatens To Release New Album
Not only do My Bloody Valentine have their version of "Map Ref 41xN 93xW"
on the
Wire tribute album Whore (released Mon., Mar. 11) in the UK on WMO Records,
but their own
label has confirmed that MBV will have an album out before the end of the
year. The band has not
released an album since 1991's innovative and breathtaking Loveless, but
that's not from wont of
trying. Traditionally this band spends copious amounts of time in the studio,
and the high standards
that they demand of themselves is legendary. What we hear is this effort has
been delayed
because of a dispute over a mixing desk in the band's recording studio. The
head of A&R at Island
UK told the NME recently that "categorically there would be an album released
in 1996." What
does worry us is the U.S. office of Island told us that "we have no
information about this release.
You know we don't release everything that the UK office does."
