Here is a review I found of something new from Psy-Harmonics... -------- Germinator: Alosakum PSY-025 This recent release from Melbourne's (Australia) acclaimed Psy Harmonics label illustrates the for reaching spread of electronic dance music. 'Germinated' in Kristianstadsgatan, Sweden, this album instantly grabbed my attention both for its deep exploration of the 'trance' genera, and the punchy, crisp production. It stands very much as an integrated whole: the six tracks clocking in at 44:04, making it the perfect length for a 'sit down and listen'. To some extent an album should perform just as a piece of theatre or film does, in leading the viewer/listener into its own world, and exploring its conceptual basis. To this end Alosakum's album facilitates the listening process right from the outset, with the listener being unwittingly drawn into explore the world of the Germinator. Here the simple becomes complex, the sounds merge seemlessly and the product is an invitation to dance. Deep tones mesh with sparkling and sweet melodies, whilst an intricate and tribal rhythmic substrate gives a sometimes driving, sometimes cyclic feel. The tracks are all dance floor orientated, and provide a refreshing approach to the now generic and cliched trance genera. For those who are familiar with the likes of Psy-Harmonics, TIP, and Matsuri Productions this album should be an automatic purchase, whilst those looking for a serious and inventive introduction to a somewhat recently maligned from of music Alosakum's world of the Germinator is a great place to explore. ..a.. -------- - / -____ | | ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ aerial <mthomas@arts.adelaide.edu.au>
