Hello IDMers,
OK, i have taken the time to read ALL the responses of all you people who
are concerned about what I have been saying. These are my final words, I
want to move on.
1) Some of you have been posting things about what makes a good Dj and
what doesn't make a good DJ. I never asked this question, this is NOT a
DJ newsgroup. At least, that is what I used to think.
2) I was addressing the scene in Denver.
3) For all of you people out there who would rather see a DJ, than
Autechre (who happen to be the source of my original post- READ IT
FIRST!), I don;t see what you are doing on this newsgroup.
See people, there are some really talented electronic musicians in the
area. However, the scene here, as in many ohter regions, is dominated by
DJs. To get anything done around here, from what I have been told, there
is soooo much ass kissing to these dominant DJs that little progresses in
the area.
I love IDM, this is what concerns me most. I have not attended a vast
ammount of raves, I will admit that. However, judging from the raves I
have gone to in Denver and LA, and talking to those who say they know the
scenes there, there is not a strong support for IDM from the local promoters.
The promoters get $20+ a ticket for having some famous DJ on the bill. We
need to show the rave kids that there is more to the music than the DJs,
baggy clothes, drugs and four on the floor. Rarely, have I ever heard a good
set of IDM from DJs at major events in either of these locations. Can;t
you all see where I am coming from.
When I subscribed to this group I thought we would talk about IDM, we do
and its great. I have learned a lot from it. However, everytime I go to a
party it is usually progressive house or straight four on the floor
techno. I thought you people who are commited to IDM see this, my
mistake. Like i said, I have rarely heard a good set of IDM. Shit there
are virtually no IDM Djs around here.
When a promoter in the area needs a chill room or anything IDM they all
run to NATHAN, who runs one of the local record shops. While his store
carries tons of stuff for DJs it is also the ONLY store in Colorado that
is devoted to IDM. Because of his knowledge w/ AMBIENT/IDM he is taken
for granted when it comes to chill rooms and the like.
I am sure he may feel flattered by being depended on, but there are many
other locals who want to break some ground for IDM, the promoters all
KNOW it too. However, the only thing in their goddamn heads is the money
that the 15 year olds are gonna give them next SAT. the only thing these
kids know about is DJs and doing speed. The rpomoters give them a place to
do their drugs and they give the promoters $15 - $20. As far as music
goes for some of these ravers, I see them all the time coming in
the record store to buy music. All they buy is house and DJ mixes. Hello,
there's more to music then JAYDEE's PLASTIC DREAMS (goddamn awful song IMHO).
for you people who missed my point of my first post, tough. I do feel
responsible for this thread and I did bring it upon myself by saying that
anyone can DJ. While I still believe this true, I never asked any of you
to discuss what makes a good/bad Dj. I could Care less. I only care about
the music of IDM. the Best music in the world. If there is a scene where
all the DJs do is play IDM then I will move there. Call me narrowminded
call me what you want, but I thought this group was devoted to that
music called IDM? Maybe I was wrong. In this devotion, I want to see it
flourish in my area and I don't see why I can't criticize the area's
promoters who REALLY DO have the resources to bring gods like Autechre
out, they did it before, why not now. I tell you why, because these
fucking little brats will bring them more money when Keoki comes to town.
If you love IDM, i do not see how that could not disgust you.
I am through with this discussion. Many of you should just read the my
first post, maybe read two or three times. a DJ discussion wasn't my
point, why do you think I called the post DENVER IS AWFUL, not DJS ARE AWFUL.
UGH,
gil
