It's a weird album, but pretty cool. It's basically jungle rhythms, though not very fast, with sparse amounts sounds & samples on top. Plenty of tempo changes and breaks. It's unlike any other jungle I've heard (though I must admit I don't know all that much about it), but I wouldn't exactly call it 'ambient' (it's just not spacey enough for that). Definitely worth checking out. Maarten

I wouldn't say 95 was exactly "early" drum-n-bass, but this was a serously good album, and fairly unique sounding at the time (maybe even now really). There's a totally amazing subtropic remix of a Spacetime Continuum track on "Remit Recaps" , the STC remix album. (which is welll worth tracking down for other remixes by Autechre, Carl Craig and more) And I'm sure there's plenty more ST material out there.. laterz, J ^ Steady J aka James Skilton steady-j@geocities.com Autechre & SKAM discogs @ http://subnet.virtual-pc.com/~sk393820 "I don' have any idea 'bout what's going on..."

Talking about frequently asked questions on the list, I think we had this one a while back. Either way Subtropic is now living in the UK and is recording for Fused and Bruised and has lately done an record called 'Final Mission' or something. I don't have it and last time someone posted some more info... Graham. np: Vulva - Vulvic Yonification (damn this is good - thanks Gil!! saved from a review by Lance: . Subtropic: Life Time Mission 12" (Fused & Brused/FABR009T) Four tracks all previously unreleased: Life Time Mission, Vaccyne, Fine Syne, Wrapped (in strange dreams). The Life Time Mission EP takes his previous "futuristic sonic voyages" to another level with 4 tracks of sparse electronica. This month's issue of Muzik reviewed it as such: "The Brighton based knob twiddlers expose an ultra-fresh mash up of weird drum & bass, deep electro and quirky Eighties funk. Seriously freaky, funked-out shit" 9/10 .jeff. .do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. \-. you may both be wrong .-/
