Nobukazu Takemura: "Child's View REMIX" Idyllic Records TFCC-88205 1. Searching (Roni Size Remix) Remixed by Roni Size & DJ Die 2. For Tomorrow (Out-of-Phase Mix) Remixed by Reflection 3. Crescent (Cold Cut Remix) Remixed by Cold Cut & PC 4. The Lake of Winter (Wagon Christ Mix) Remixed & Additional Production by Luke Vibert 5. Reflect Tomorrow Remixed & Programmed by Reflection Re-remixed by Nobukazu Takemura 6. Let my fish loose (Aphex Twin Mix) Remixed by Richard D. James 7. Crescent (Mad's Trippy Remix) Remixed by Mad Professor 8. Crescent (Ninja Logical Remix) Remixed by Cold Cut & PC The string of remix compilations from Japan continues with this album, with remixes of tracks from DJ Takemura's album "Child's View". In short, to me, what the Nav Katze comp was to the earlier "intelligent techno" sound a la Black Dog and Reload, this comp is to the Mo'Wax sound. This one's got the obligatory Mo'Wax jungle remix as well. The Roni Size remix is pretty nice jungle but indistinguishable from the other remixes I've heard from him. Reflection are two dudes from Japan, who put in a nice dubby track. The Wagon Christ track has that acoustic bass and funky feeling, but very subdued and quiet, as if he didn't really feel like messing around with the original too much. The Aphex track is the jokiest of all his remixes I've heard - in that he doesn't seem to do anything 95% of the time. The remix doesn't sound anything like RDJ for its entire 5 minutes, except two parts: one where Icct Hedral-ish strings come in for a few measures, and one where the girlish vocals are accompanied by a screeching, distorted voice. I think he really took the money and ran on this one. Mad Professor also holds back - can't find any of the heavier dubby stuff a la the Massive Attack album. It's a good album for a Mo'Wax fan like me, but don't buy it for the remixers - they don't exactly go all out to put their stamp on the tracks.
