The IDM Poll 1995 ----------------- Those of you who were joined to the idm list this time last year will recognise this poll as being very similar to the one run then. I am hoping to get a reply from everyone this year ! The talk on the list seems quite diverse these days so I would expect that to be reflected in the polling. Obviously the more votes I get, the more representative the poll. All replies should be via personal Email i.e. NOT to the idm mailing list. I will process the results which will be posted to the list and also made available on the Web archives. The entry form follows. Please reply using this format. This will make my life much easier when processing the entries. Get back to me by 29th December latest - this gives you a couple of weeks or so if you want mull things over. ----------------------------------------------------------------Cut----- IDM Poll 1995 <IDM Album Of The Year> (Three equal votes for '95 releases) 1)................... 2)................... 3)................... 1994 Winner: Plastikman - Musik <IDM Single/EP Of The Year> (Three equal votes for '95 releases) 1)................... 2)................... 3)................... 1994 Winner: FSOL - Lifeforms (Paths 1-7) <Compilation Of The Year> (Vote for compilation released in '95) 1)................... 1994 Winner: Artificial Intelligence II <Chill Out Album OTY> (Vote for album released in '95) 1)................... 1994 Winner: Global Communication - 76:14 <IDM Label Of The Year> (For consistent quality in '95) 1)................... 1994 Winner: Warp <IDM Artist Of The Year> (For consistent quality in '95) 1)................... 1994 Winner: N/A <IDM Tip for '96> (Who'll spark us up in '96) 1)................... I've two questions for the judges: Does the Basic Channel CD count as a compilation or an artist album? I'm inclined to say compilation, since the 12"s most of the tracks are culled from often have various ostensible artist names, but I think a ruling is in order. Do DJ mix CD's count as compilations? I think they should. Also, when choosing your votes, please take care that you don't vote for releases from before 1995. Here's a list I threw together of items from 1994 that people may be confused about (thanks to reissues or what have you): 777 System 7.3: Fire + Water 4 Hero Parallel Universe FSOL ISDN Irresistible Force Global Chillage LFO Tied Up Massive Attack Protection Mouse on Mars Vulvaland Portishead Dummy Skylab #1 C. -- cspot@hyperreal.com (Chris.Hilker) "I feel like I'm being electrocuted."

If you notice, the deadline for IDM Poll submissions is Friday, December 29th. How many releases do you think we'll miss between then and Monday January 1st? :: Alan M. Parry :: fluid@hyperreal.com :: <finger me for PGP key> :: http://hyperreal.com/~fluid

If this is the policy, expect to leave worthy, year-end releases by the wayside. To me, this doesn't make sense. Either include year-end releases or have the voting in mid January sometime. I think last year's results bear the evidence. Tim

"If this is the policy, expect to leave worthy, year-end releases by the wayside." I concur. More than likely, we'll see anything released prior to August 1995 absent, save for such titles as "I Care Because You Do". Does anyone still listen to "Musik" anymore? I definately see the humor but isn't that just a little too ridiculous? :) Also, Fax has cut back to 1 release every 2 weeks which really isn't that prolific anymore considering how many artists are on the label. Tony
