Well, most people ended up scoffing at the little samplespotting spree we had a while back, but I thought it was rather neat ... I like knowing where things come from in terms of what the artist is putting through in the song ... and it seems to me that certain samples are the subject of Frequently Asked Questions. So I've compiled almost all of the information that was discussed, and have added a bunch of my own. If anyone has sample info they want to contribute, or can answer any of these questions, or can refer me to some other source, please send me _private_ e-mail! 1. What Carpenters song is sampled in WFO "No One In the World"? 2. What are the violin and choral pieces in Orb "Into the Fourth Dimension"? 3. What mission are the samples in Orb "Back Side of the Moon" from? 4. How about for Jimi Cauty's "Space"? 5. What 808 State song is is the source of the flute riff in Amorphous Androgynous "Liquid Insects"? (not really pertinent ... just curious) 6. What Dead Can Dance song is sampled in FSOL "Papua New Guinea"? 7. Anyone know the details of the original recording of Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You"? Generally, I'm looking for movie and TV references. Other than that, only objects of major curiosity, not drumloops and sounds sampled from other songs. I'm stealing Lazlo's funky-fresh discography format as follows: [movie/show] [on artist: album (label; cat#)] song: "sample" (other description) [references/notes] [artist: song] [from movie/show/artist: song] "sample" (other description) [references/notes] Any input is most appreciated! And yes, I'm a dork! --Seofon

Death of the Iconoclast. I swear, if you mix this with Radio Babylon by MBM, you can make your own mix of Papua New Guinea right in your own home!
