I was just thinking that there should be a samplespotting library for IDM... My recent finds: almost all samples on Alcove _Universal_Implication_ are from Twin Peaks as is "I love you" from the Electrot'ete song of the same name and, interestingly enough, the title of Front 242's "Serial Killers Don't Kill Their Girlfriend" is from the Agent Cooper cassette tape thing. On the FSOL sampling note... Isn't the "kick" noise from "Just a Fuckin Idiot" sampled from the end of "It's Not My Problem"?

If you look in the sleeve to Ride's 'Going Blank Again' you'll notice they accredit it. It's from the movie 'Withnail and I', which is produced by Handmade Films and is definitely worth checking out, in my opinion. Seofon@aol.com wrote:

I also noticed when watching Luc Besson's 'Nikita' (which seems to be getting called 'La Femme Nikita' a lot recently) that the scream at the beginning of that track is the main character yelling at a security guard. As far as I remember, it's something like "Open the door you bastard" in French. GD wrote:

I'd like to point out that both Portishead and Tricky sampled 'Ike's Rap III' by Isaac Hayes, to make 'Glory Box' and 'Hell's Around the Corner' respectively, so, as far as I know, Tricky didn't sample Portishead. It's a kinda interesting trick, sampling a track's beat, bass line, and string section to make something new... I'm still trying to decide whether or not I think they're just boring rip offs. Oh yeah, also off the same Isaac Hayes compilation, Ike's Mood, comes the horn section for Massive Attack's 'One Love'. They also scratch in the bass line and use the entire beat and piano line at the end of the track. Also, they sampled the beat for 'Lately' off the same album. Fuck I hate being a train spotter. Why do I do this??? this one's probably already been discussed, but one of my favorite moments from surfing on sine waves is the julie andrews sample on supremacy II. "do re mi fa so la ti.... oh let's see if i can make it easier." only because julie is far cooler than aphex any day... mark frank

Not sure. The "OK, everybody on line, lookin' good..." sample on ISDN is from _Aliens_, though. (the Lieutenant in the rolligon-tank thingy just before the marines enter the complex). -H-

I thought the story someone posted on idm way back back back in the day was that the sample in the "I Love You" came from Ben Watkins (Juno Reactor)'s girlfiend. Supposedly they had some firey parting, and he couldn't stand to listen to the track anymore. Or something like that. idm.folklore? Wait -- I thought it was one of the Exist Dance crew's girlfriends who did the vocal for "I'm So Hight" and broke up with him! Hmm... maybe it was both. ObIDM -- You could do _much_ worse than pick up a copy of the double-CD Disko B compilation _Supermarkt_. All of those fondly-remembered DJ Hell classics, and a whole lot more stripped down dancefloor minimalism. This is what techno sounded like back in the day, only the day is now. yrz, ozy ozymandias G desiderata ogd@organic.com Ravers Suck Our Sound (415)284-6888 http://www.organic.com/Staff/ogd/ ::AOAIOXXYSZ::

One cool 'laser hit'-type sound that FSOL used peroidically on "Just a Fuckin Idiot" on ISDN. I am more than positive it is from the opening battle scene in Terminator2. Neat sound... Another favorite sample used by Aphex/Caustic Window and 808 State was "We are the music makers..." spoeken by Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolat Factory.
