I thought that I'd never be a 'me too' post kind of guy, but the Elastic Speakers record is an accomplished work of sonic mayhem. Just when you thought that you'd heard it all, along someone comes with a new twist. This guy's specialty is funky (there's that word again) chewy analog sounds piled in a syncopated mess. But with a beat. And nothing at all to do with Jungle. Much as I like junglish stuff (in small doses) I'm at the point where I DON'T want to hear yet another IDM type musician come out with his take on Jungle. My 6 year old invented a word that he used to characterize his pacifier: "Yubby" which is a sort of portmanteau of 'Rubber' and 'Yummy' meaning something chewy and rubbery and comforting. That's what I'd call Elastic Speakers, Yubby!!! -- kent.williams@cadsi.com [Kent Williams/CADSI/2651 Crosspark Rd/Coralville IA 52241/(319)626-6700] "It is a good world, generally (and especially when totally ignore detail)." --Darwin Grosse, who did NOT invent Eckankar.
