Check out the new Bomb the Bass single "Sandcastles". This contains in addition to the title track, the Chemical Brothers remix of "Bug Powder Dust" (originally released as part of that single), plus another excellent new dubby remix of it, then a Jedi Knights remix of a third track (title evades me). Subtly combining old-school Detroit bass sounds with even older-school electro rhythms the result is very funky and very good. Not as tinnily electronic sounding as the like of Elecktroids, and minus the gimmicks of the Atacid remix, this one pulls up another angle on the return of the future funk. I'm talking about the 12" here, not sure if the track is on the CD so take care. The track is not on the CD which has the original mix of Absorber instead. What's annoying is that the second Jedi Knights mix which was on the promo is not on either format. Does anyone know if there will be a second CD. Also, note that the new Gescom Ep is out now on *Clear*... peter

(And of course I was indeed referring to the track "Absorber")

Ah, I wondered why it said "Jedi Knights mix 1". It is highly unlikely there will be a second CD, as the UK chart rules limit a single to only 3 formats; any additional formats would have to contribute to a separate chart placing. And as there is a tape as well as the 12" and CD, that wraps it up. (And no, there isn't a version of Absorber on the tape at all) Perhaps there will eventually be a Bomb the Bass remixes LP (a la Massive Attack v Mad Prof) which may contain some of these hard-to-get versions.

I'd like to point out that I've heard the tape, 12" and two CD singles of Bomb the Bass' 'Bug Powder Dust', so I'm not sure I'd agree about this limiting of formats. Perhaps they weren't all released in the UK, but I doubt it, since I got them on import, presumably from somewhere 'round there. The UK chart-rules format limit dropped from four to three recently -- my guess is sometime this past spring -- but the rule does exist. Many artists will release further formats once a single is slipping in the charts, if they have enough of a following to sell them. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo)
