Lucky Lucky me! I got the promo CD of WARP LP29 at the weekend. Unfortunately no info whatsoever, but here's a brief run-through. 20 tracks, total time over 70 mins. A number of tracks are brief "bolts"-style interludes. Overall, it errs on the Uptempo side of things, but there's some stuff on here that is pretty much unlike anything I've ever heard before. Descriptions are from brief notes made while listening on Sunday. A certain amount of information may be lost in the translation I'm afraid. 1. A few words about "Evolution" 2. Pretty hard'n'fast with phase'n'flange (well I think that's what people call flange) 3. A strange jerky interlude. Not techno in any conventional sense. 4. Hollow bangin' toon with 303s and a sample from "Sex-omatic" by the Bar-Kays (one of my Funk Faves!!) 5. A short funky interlude in (black) Doggy style. 6. Fast and trancey and rather beautiful. 7. Plucked guitar (or harpsichord) type sounds, flutes. Like baroque music played at 78 (!) 8. Almost too fast. But nice. (Couldn't I do better than that!?) 9. Starts with a newscast about a "biosphere" and its inhabitants. Progresses to a fast polyrhythmic track. Could well be Reload. 10. Woosh. Boom. Funny noises. Then breakbeat and acid. 11. Bubble. Twang. Boing Crunch. Rhythmic mayhem. Things are getting decidedly strange here! 12. Looped treated samples from the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer. "I, Charles". Absolutely incredible. 13. Ambient track, "beach" type feel (like something off the "Cafe Del Mar" comp) but with a fast junglistic break. Chameleon? But then a riff I recognise (possibly from 76:14) and a spoken "Link" link at the end. 14. Delicate top end but a heavy shuffling techno break underneath 15. A rhythm composed of rattles and pops. Odd. Short. 16. Hard, fast, metallic (rattle those pots and pans - this must be Wishmountain!), funky, beautiful. 17. Deep Dark Spoken intro. Gritty "Dog-Funk" style track. could be Jedi Knights due to electro-funky feel. 18. Antacid. The full 11 minute version from WAP59 19. Hilarious Depth-Charge style sequence of dialog and fight sounds. 20. One minute of silence followed by two rasperries and some giggling. This is from the end of the "Scratches and samples" section which follows the Jedi Knights' remix of "Antacid" on WAP59R hope that's got y'all drooling...
