Finally! After much waiting, I now have the domestic release of System 7.3 Fire + Water, by 777. What's incredible about this, is that no store in town has had this cd at all, even though I'd heard it was coming out last Tuesday (Jan 31). I called and called, but no one seemed to have it yet. Then, after trying everyone else, I called a really small shop in town, and wonder of wonders, they had it! And, to top off my searching efforts, they had it for $9.95! (no, i didn't forget a "1" in the price :-) This has to be the best deal I've gotten to date on any cd/rekkid purchase... Two Full-Length cds, each less than $5 a piece, is better than a bargain in my book. Anyway, enough with my elation... I've listened to the Fire cd, and really dig it... True, there are a lot of tracks with not much creativity in the beat department, but the ever creative use of guitar samples and multitudes of "big-wig" names in the idm/techno/trance genre provide lots of juice to everything on the album. I've also got the Sirenes 12", and it seems like the "System 7.1" version on their is mostly like the version on the album, tho the intro is a bit different on the album. The Water mix of Coltrane is especially lush, flowing along with the beat like a wild river. I haven't heard the Firefly mix on the Water cd yet. All in all, I'm one very happy camper. Even got me a poster from the shop saying new release, with a picture of the album, and I presume Hillage and Giraudy on the bottom. There's supposed to be a release party here in Atlanta next Saturday (feb 18) I believe at a place called "Weekends"... the title of the night is "Madhouse" (this place names all the different nights something different). Just thought I'd toss that in in case anyone around here wants to know about it... On now: Marathon by 808 State (goin thru the 12" stuff for a while here :-) -- ------------------------- Interested in music? Uh, those aren't samples. Hillage is a quite-accomplished guitarist. C. -- cspot@hyperreal.com (Chris.Hilker) ...electro-spiritual in composition...
