Heres some new records I bought recently: Agenda 22 (another Eevolute compilation) Space Time Continuum: Sea Biscuit Wladimir M: As the Leaves Fall from the Trees (Eevolute 002) Dan Curtin: Voices from anther Age Reviews very soon... Also: I decided that "My Yellow Wise Rug" is better than "4 Cornered Room" but _only_just_. The track "Surface Bound" on 4CR is absolutely stunning though. And... can anyone tell me what the Daniel Pemberton CD is like? I dont usually buy CDs especially by people that don't shave yet :) so I'd like some opinions... Finally, with a bit of pressure I could have something out on vinyl before March which would be great as I have decided to have _something_ out by the time I'm 20 (august) even if I have to fund the release myself... Anyway, Bye! Brendan Nelson Kinetic Illusion "...Ageless, Wisdom of the sages... Ignorance is contagious"

I bought Daniel Pemberton's "BEDROOM" FAX CD just last night.. a bit reluctant myself but curious nonetheless. On first impression, I love it! This is one of the best FAX CDs to come out yet I think. It's what I *wish* Future Sound of London or the Orb had done. I find it hard to describe a lot of ambient music but... it does start out a bit experimental and clunky and gets more into atmospheres & textures. He samples quite a bit... it sort of reminded me a bit of the recent FFWD album but better. At a couple of points I heard a guitar and "real drums" which gave a bit of a rock n'roll effect, and I thought, WHAT!??? but they didn't last very long and they certainly got me thinking. There's a bit of every genre and it's all quite creative and imaginative, I give him credit for that. It traverses all different moods, from very uplifting & happy in the middle to very dark and industrial towards the very end... yet it all flows together very well. I guess his creativity hasn't been stifled by adulthood. I must say, I'm impressed with this kid. What's his story anyway? I hear he's a 16 year old that used to be on R&S I think??? I look forward to hearing this one a lot more and hopefully more new stuff in the future! ___ / / / / / / _ __/ (_/__/ / (__ (__ ___/

Excerpt From The Times, Friday April 29 1994. _UP TO SOMETHING IN THE BEDROOM_ [Mu-Ziq stuff deleted] ...With his combination of violently distorted drum machine sounds and disturbingly bland melodies, [Mu-Ziq] sits on the cutting edge of techno. Further out, in the west London suburbs, even younger bedroom bores are waiting to take his place. Daniel Pemberton is a confident 16-year-old who disguises his electronic music activities from all but his closest of school friends. At his home near Hampton Court, he churns out cassettes of impressively accomplished ambient techno on equipment financed by writing reviews for a computer games magazine. Some of it sounds the equal of music written by Hollywood composers who win Oscars, but Pemberton is better off not knowing that until his exam revision is finished. Already, a minor bidding war is in progress as record companies in Belgium, Germany and Britain fight to release his debut album, called, appropriately enough, Bedroom. Pemberton is impressed, but adolescently diffident enough to jeopardise his chances of closing a deal. After all, his mother studied textile design at Winchester College of Art when Brian Eno was president of the Students Union. "It really freaked me out, that," he says. Of course, he has peers who still thrash out noisy guitar music. "There are quite a few bands at our school", he says, "but most of them are probably knob." Too bright to be a bore, but too now to be knob, Pemberton is simply bedroom. [end article] Im not sure he had anything out on R&S, I think that they were just part of the bidding war to get this kid signed. _______ (__,-, \ / /\ \ f l u i d <finger me for PGP key> /,_) \ \ flu'id (floo'-) (/ \\ brit@chopin.udel.edu :65 FD F9 9F F2 23 F8 CF: \) fluid@freezer.cns.udel.edu :80 9C 11 AA 9F 92 0D 27: :: Alan M. Doesnt anyone remember me mentioning Pemberton back in March? Brendan first with the news as usual (also check me talking about that FSOL 12" about 5 weeks ago!). Anyway, he very nearly signed to R&S but didnt for some reason, perhaps cos they were going to be taking ages getting his stuff out, and also cos R&S seem to be notorious for ripping artists off, allegedly (no libel intended!). Apparently he's made some music with David Toop, and he's got a remix of MLO's track Wimborne on the rising high CD single, but as I said I've never heard anything he's made... Anyway I've got an article on him that was in i-D magazine, if anyone wants me to I'll post it... Brendan Nelson Kinetic Illusion
