Subject: FSOL sessions - the DIY guide
The DIY guide to a Future Sound of London radio session.
========================================================
If you missed the sessions and feel left out, just follow these simple steps
and you too can join in the FSOL radio experience.
The most important part is to have plenty of material to play with. The best
stuff usually comes from TV, so video a few hours worth; Channel 4 re-runs
of "Just For Laughs", films like "Escape From New York"... in fact almost
anything will do. The more obscure the better, and anything with a drug
reference is a real bonus.
It is essential that you use plenty of vocal samples, so if there aren't
enough on what you recorded then use the old standby - an answerphone message
tape. Next put the voices through some effects equipment and do some time
stretches and pitch shifts.
Now you need two very important samples - water noises (waterfalls/babbling
brooks) and goat bleats. Start with the water and then mix in the distorted
voices, TV samples and goats. Stick in some occassional drum loops and
soothing synth chords, sprinkle on the obligatory FSOL vocal samples and
technical references; some cobblers about ISDN works well... and give out
an Internet address (oops, I mean Internet access code ;) that you should
never get any reply from.
Repeat as necessary to fill three hours.
If I sound a bit critical it's probably because I now have over 27 hours of
FSOL radio sessions and they are all beginning to sound strangely similar !
Virtually... :)om
