I would think that if Orbital are doing a breakbeat album, than that would elevate the level of breakbeat, rather than lowering the level of Orbital. <<<<< Excuse me? "Elevate the level of breakbeat"??? I have had enough of the breakbeat slamming on this list, but hey, we all have different tastes, but some of the things I read are just plain stupidity! See, when Fluid says breakbeat isn't his stuff, I can accept it, cos he honestly gives it a fair listen. I don't know about anyone else on this list, I think the most breakbeat that people listen to is the Speed Limit comps and thats it! There is a lot more to breakbeat than most people realize! I don't think Orbital would elevate breakbeat. I think they'd be a sad commercial joke if they did breakbeat. I like Orbital a lot, but there are slews of breakbeat artists who are a lot better. They just don't get any respect because they are breakbeat! Is that right? I don't know, but I think it's time some people gave breakbeat another look over instead of saying absolutely stupid comments on how Orbital will bring about a whole new originality in breakbeat. Sorry. True hardcore artists have already done it, and have done it better than Orbital ever could! Breakbeat got really swamped when it got commercial. Kiddie choons out the ass and overused samples...but once it moved out of the mainstream glare a deeper more original form of music was born. No more monotonous beat loops here, folks. No more overused samples. Breakbeat is now at the cutting edge, unlike trance. Trance is now falling prey to the mainstream glare...so is ambience. Thank god for some artists in these genres who doon't feel the need to copy other people! But on to breakbeat: I don't know how often I see someone slamming it when they can't name a single record they have heard as of recent. I hate phrases like "People are tired of hard breakbeats...they want to groove..." It's stupidity. Why not give it a fair chance? Before you go off and label something as crap you should give it a listen! Check out these: Omni Trio "Rollin' Heights Vol. 4" A 4 track EP on Movin' Shadow Records (vinyl only, so you CD people are out of luck...as usual >:) Omni Trio creates some of the most beautiful stuff I have ever heard. Great drum tracks and deep rolling bass that just soothes your body...totally great stuff, not maniac 'ardkore. Call it "Chillcore"... The "Thru The Vibe (Bongo Mix)" is absolutely brilliant, using bongos and moving the record up to a slight frenzy and back out and in again... The whole EP is great. Get it. Ratty "A Taste of Things To Come EP" Another great record, deep bass, nice breaks, if I used the word "intelligent" to descibe would you listen?? 2 Bad Mice "Underworld" DEEP. The only way to describe this track...this is readily available on Speed Limit Vol. 3. Totally trippy and trancey. The way it should be done. I think anyone could appreciate this track if they are into trance. Oh I could go on and on, just check out Enforcers 6 & 7, Blame & Justice "Antemia/Essence"...etc! Ask people on the breaks list cos my records are woefully old and behind :( (no one stocks breakbeat in Georgia.) To sum it up: Don't write off breakbeat as a form of music, and don't think Orbital are going to make it any better...they will only mess up an already great form of music. Breakbeat has lived without Orbital for years and will continue to do so. (\/\/)
