Hillie, I didn't actually write this. It was actually Roy-g-biv@eudora.
My actual reply is below, and thank you for proving my point exactly with
your post. Anyway enough of this thread for now. We know what music we are
listening to, and that's what matters - not the name given to it. The feeling
I get is that most of this list don't actually give 2 ####s about the term
idm, given the names elicited by the 3 letters - The best one being 'It
Doesn't Matter' . Maybe we should all stick to idm as a mystery term, and
when people ask you what it means, just say the music is labelled " "I Don't
Mind", or "I Dig Music"...
etc etc... and just to confuse the hell out of them even more, just say "and
its an alternative title for Electronic Listening Music!"

Not really, there is listening music; and there is listening music!
This is not to necessarily suggest that it is not dance music, however it
implies that the music is specifically produced for a more total *AURAL*
experience. This is why if you look on the back of the Artificial
Intelligence series and many other class 'idm' style music have on the back
of the Cds as *File Under Electronic Listening Music*.
