Well, don't take that disc as a first impression! They don't always count.
Winter is indeed very monotonous (that is, mono-TONE-ous). In fact, someone
said the last half of the disc is just the first half backwards, and I believe
they are right! But, it's not much different than listening to a didgeridoo
(though I think a didgeridoo has a better sound-texture).
However, Namlook's other Ambient stuff is relatively better. I, personally,
prefer the fast trance stuff FAX puts out. Is there anyone out there that
could separate the FAX discography into Ambient and Trance categories? I'd
like to know what I'm missing as far as Trance. I like Escape, 4Voice, and
Subsequence stuff. It's fast, kickin, travelling-through-the-Holland-tunnel-
at-a-hundred-miles-an-hour Trance!
For ambience, I recommend Locust on Apollo/R&S -- "Weathered Well" is the
latest LP. Much more mystical, organic, and alien-like than Biosphere's
"Patashnik" (on the same label). Now that I think about it, Locust reminds
me of Seefeel's "Plainsong".
=Seasons Greetings=Winter= may be FISHBOWL ambience, but don't be discouraged
by first impressions.
