The way ahead in this drugs discussion is to consider not the music,
or the chemicals, but the combined experience.
I know for a fact that u90cmg thinks I speak sh*t, but I also know
that his experience is totally different from mine. Likewise it is true that
everyone gets something different from IDM.
Personally I am chemical free because I could never dilute that
magical moment when dance becomes trance, and four senses shut down. There
is just that beautiful inevitability of the next break and the next break. It
doesn't always last for long, but the high it gives is similar to the
rush of happy house when a sea of smiling faces lift their hands to gather
the energy. Or the assault of psychedelic techno as waves of complex and
filtered acoustics wash the consciousness from your brain.
All of these things define escapism for me. The ability to shut off
from your surroundings, BUT with total control. As I see it, none of the
above is possible without seriously involving yourself in the music. And that
means NO DRUGS.
IDM is Intelligent not mindless.
