absolutely incorrect. the actual physical maximum is around 82 minutes. however, there are many cheap players out there that can't track well past minute 74, so there seems to be an unofficial limit of about 74 minutes. earlier in the history of CDs, most record companies limited themselves to 70 minutes, which led to a whole spate of reissues later on when they realized that 74 was fine. (XTC's English Settlement was issued in a 65-minute version, missing two tracks. They corrected it later and issued the full album which still fit fine on a single CD, at around 75 minutes. Ditto, I think, for Prince's 1999.) if you want to make a CD that's longer than 74 minutes, the price will increase quite a bit because the failure rate is a lot higher. also they have to get special tapes for the Sony 1630 stage - apparently they're normally only 74 minutes long or something like that!
