Words like abstract, absurd and weird are used everyday to describe
the unknown or unusual. Hydroplane's debut LP for Experimedia is all
of those things and more. Shuffling, gurgling beats spiral around
skeletal arpeggios and awkwardly sliced samples, creating a demented
taffy-like effect over the albums 11 tracks. Pieces like "Argag"
create such an air through the lunatic repetition of voices and
playful mallet sounds, that the listener often feels as though some
powerful psychadelic drug has been slipped to them unknowingly
approximately 20-40 minutes ago. By the time "Morguray" drops, you've
had sufficient time to pour yourself a cold beverage and rub ice on
your confused brain, as you watch the sunset from a deckchair on a
white beach. Finally, the LP's closer, "Outro", ultimately leaves the
listener feeling drained and yet oddly fulfilled... ready for whatever
comes next.
