You should ask the artists to encode them to FLAC rather than MP3, then let the end user encode them how they like. FLAC is a lossless format, like WAV, but it's about 4 to 5x larger than an MP3 file. WAV is more like 8 to 9x larger than MP3. MP3 sucks, I can't believe it ever got standardized.
