I've had the album for a little bit; it's pretty damned nice, but "colossal achievement" is a bit misleading IMO. It's colossal, sure, but so is anything that's 4 CDs long. Kesto is moody--very moody--and all this moodiness makes it hard to ascribe any number of words (or feelings) to it. But the fact that it is so moody, going from noisey Kulima-type stuff to Bernhard Gunter or Coh microtonal sound, makes the whole thing feel challenged as a complete whole. This is good stuff, mind you, and will undoubtedly make my top10 for the year, but I'd personally rather had it doled out to me in stages. There's at least 1.5 years of music here, and it's a lot to take all at once no matter how nice the packaging might be (and it is quite nice). The only comparison I could make: consider how you'd take Autechre if they released the material on Chiastic Slide, LP5, and Confield as a *single* massive release. If that's your cup of tea, then Kesto will likely please. Heath Glenn McClements wrote:
