Dear all,
On the subject of radio play (someone brought it up recently), how do
those of you involved in broadcasting get hold of records to play?
I'm programme controller of a student radio station in a largish,
experimental-music-friendly town (Cambridge, UK); my own show is by no
means exclusively IDM (there's everything from '70s post-punk to
Xinlisupreme on my playlist at various points), but what we play
relies heavily on what we can get hold of.
A lot of stuff comes from my personal collection for my shows, but
there are many other DJs on the station who would play a lot more
electronic material if we could get hold of it on promo (like your
typical UK student station, we're running on rather less than a
shoestring budget), rather than the masses of third-rate indie we
usually get.
Any suggestions? Even getting on the promo lists of one or two the
bigger IDM labels (eg Warp) would make a huge difference.
