those of you who can't stand guitar in your electronica will be
mortified at the indie-rockiness of the new lali puna track
"micronomic", not to mention the joy-division-like pumping bass
guitar of "grin and bear".
meanwhile "faking the books", with it's electronically-stuttering
female vocals, reminds me a bit of AGF. overall the vocals are
slightly less deadpan than on previous LP albums, perhaps taking
a cue from ms. john soda's stefanie böhm or even suzanne vega
in spots.
of course the dominant influence is most likely the members of the
notwist; ths acher brothers' stamp is on this recording even more
than the morr music sound. "left handed" instantly recalls the new
orderisms of "day seven", but replacing micha's sumneresque
vocals with the more familiar spoken word of valerie. "alienation"
has the same type of glitchy beats as "electric bear" or "one step
inside".
overall the samples intrigue me more than any other LP music i've
heard, and i'll be picking this up as soon as possible.
